Kapa Haka is a taonga at Matarau School, connecting our students to te ao Māori through waiata, haka, pūrakau (storytelling), and tikanga. With dedicated time each week, our rōpū develops confidence, pride, and a deep sense of identity and belonging.
Students are supported to grow their skills and understanding over time, with opportunities to work towards performance and leadership within the group. We attend a number of kapa haka festivals throughout the year, where our tamariki can showcase their learning and represent our kura with mana.
Whānau involvement is warmly welcomed, and we celebrate our ākonga’s journey through performances at both school and wider community events.
