Special focus for 2012
In 2012 the school will especially focus on writing. We want to create authentic opportunities for children to increase their writing mileage and thus ..
.. increase their confidence as writers
.. create opportunities for them to become better spellers
.. create opportunities to learn and apply new vocabulary
In particular we want children to ..
.. have some understanding (appropriate to level) of what a good piece of narrative writing looks like.
.. use the school and national exemplars to improve their writing.
.. discuss, critique and shape own writing (and assist others in doing so).
.. be able to articulate their next writing step using WALT’s (We are learning to .. statements)
.. enjoy sharing their writing with others.
.. comment constructively on the writing of others.
We also recognise that children learn best when they ..
.. understand their strengths
.. know how they learn best
.. when they have positive friendships.
A number of initiatives will be trialled in 2012 to assist children to ..
.. identify their strengths and their basic learning style.
.. use this knowledge to make good learning choices.
.. understand what makes good friendships.
.. how people sustain meaningful and mutually advantageous friendships.
.. how to resolve and move on from disagreements.
In 2012 we will also be learning ..
.. how to write and research our own questions.
.. how to use the school library to select books that will interest and extend us.
.. how to use school reading logs to increase their reading mileage.
.. how to share our favourite books with others
.. how to improve our overall level of fitness.
.. that fitness and sport are fun as well as being good for us.
To support children needing extra assistance in 2012 we will also be ..
.. providing after school labs to support children needing extra assistance
.. looking more closely at how we can modify class programmes to help these children to be successful
.. providing opportunities for children interested in learning more about Maori language and culture
Our 2012 Targets
Although we will gather and analyse data in a wide range of areas in 2012, our writing results will be of special interest to us. These results will be used to ..
.. identify strengths and weaknesses
.. set and modify targets
.. measure progress and thus the success of our programmes.
.. modify programmes where necessary
